Abstract:

The complexation reactions between methylthymol blue (MTB) and Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, Zn2+ and Pb2+ ions have been studied in different water-methanol mixtures at pH 4.45 and 25 °C by a spectrophotometric technique. The stepwise stability constants of the resulting 1:1 and 2:1 (metal ion to ligand) complexes were determined from the absorbance-mole ratio data. It was found that the overall stability constants of the complexes formed increase in the order Zn2+2+2+2+2+ for all solvent mixtures studied. There is an inverse relationship between the overall stability of the complexes and amount of water in the mixed solvent. A linear relationship was observed between log b2 of the complexes and the mole fraction of methanol in the solvent mixture.

Competitive Spectrophotometric Study of Copper, Zinc and Cadmium With 18C6 Using TAR as a Colorimetric Complexing Agent in Methanol

A Competitive spectrophotometric method has been used for the study of complexation between Cu2+, Zn2+ and Cd2+ (M) and 18-crown-6(18C6, B) in methanol using 4-(2-thiazolylazo) resorcinol (TAR, HL) as the colorimetric complexant. Absorption spectra of the species in the M-TAR-18 C6 system at a various concentrations of 18C6 showed no formation of ternary com...

SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC- STUDY OF THERMODYNAMICS OF SOME HEAVY METAL COMPLEXES OF 4-(2 - PYRIDYLAZO) RESORCINOL IN BINARY ACETONITRILEDIMETHYLFORMAMIDE MIXTURES

The complexation reactions between 4-(2-pyridy1azo)-resorcinol and Cd ,H g and Pb io ns have been investigated in acetonitrile-dimethyEomamide mixtures at various temperatures using a spectrophotometric technique. The stoichiometry and the formation constants of the complexes formed in solution were calculated by computer refinement of absorbance-mole ratio data using nonlinear least-square ...

Spectrophotometric determination of acidity constants of 4-(2-pyridylazo)resorcinol in binary methanol–water mixtures

The acidity constants of 4-(2-pyridylazo)resorcinol (PAR, Scheme 1) in binary mixtures of methanol–water at 25 ◦C and an ionic strength of 0.1 M have been determined spectrophotometrically. DATa ANalysis (DATAN) program applied for determination of acidity constants. As percent of methanol increases in solvent mixtures the pKa constants also increased. There is linear relationship between acidi...
